About Us In the absence of specific damage prevention or one-call legislation in Alberta, the Alberta Damage Prevention Council (ADPC) has assumed the role of manager of industry standards related to the damage prevention process.
Mission Statement “In the spirit of cooperation, this Council is dedicated to the minimizing of damages caused to utilities from unauthorized contacts and to promotion of safe working environments for all agencies involved in development and construction". What has the ADPC accomplished? Since 1992, the ADPC has published “Call Before You Dig – Guidelines for Safe Excavations in Alberta”. Thousands of copies of this paper have been distributed at trade shows, conferences and seminars and it has formed the basis for many presentations. It is included as part of the Alberta Construction Safety Association’s Safe Trenching and Excavation course content. With the recent changes to Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety legislation this industry standard has been completely rewritten. The title has been changed to “The Damage Prevention Process in Alberta”, a statement of the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the stakeholders in the prevention of damage to buried facilities. These guidelines are intended to be fair, reasonable, practical, based on best practices and endorsed and supported by all the stakeholders.
